One of the best types of shower base, in my opinion is the resin type. The stone resin shower base is by far, in my opinion the best type of shower base that you can buy for your bathroom. The solid resin trays are a lot stronger than than the other types of tray that include the fibre glass and plastic varieties. Fibre glass and moulded plastic trays can split and fracture quite easily, and this can case a multitude of problems.
They also flex a lot, and in my experience they don't feel very stable when you stand in them. It is difficult to inspect the trap for leaks on some versions of the plastic trays as the trap is completely seal in by the tray body, and with the trap positioned inside the tray body it is impossible for any inspection of the pipe work under the tray. Another problem with this type of tray is the finish, the finish is not as durable as the as the solid resin shower bases and dulls very quickly.
If you are going to buy a shower tray, I would advise you to buy a stone resin tray as this type of shower tray is the best by far. Some shower trays have the option of an easy plumb kit, which are just basically adjustable mounting feet that attach to the bottom of the tray so there is space for the shower trap and pipe work and also access for leak inspection. It also makes the installation a lot easier.
